This textbook, though it assumes that pupils can recognize notes, rests, clefs, etc, covers the simplest elements of music and can be used for those who have had no previous instruction. The textbook is divided into 6 chapters: 1. Sound, Tone. 2. Good Singing Habits. 3. The Staff. 4. Major Diatonic Scale. 5. Notes and Rests. 6. Rhythm.
Sight reading exercises are found in the back of the textbook, together with a section of rounds and two-part songs to help the students in harmonizing parts.
